Bear on Bear

Rhymesquare 007 editI have a little confession to make, I love menswear. There are tons of brilliant brands for men out there. I spend hours pouring over their web stores and Instagram accounts and often buy entire outfits for my boyfriend (whether he likes it or not!) But there are some men’s clothes that are simply too good to let the bf keep to himself, and I can’t help cheekily stealing his clothes to wear. As was the case with this fab top by UK indie brand Rhymesquare. I’ve been a fan of Rhymesquare since they started up last year and I’ve written about them before (here). I love the edgy urban vibe of this top. The design actually reminds of the artwork of Takashi Murakami, which probably wasn’t intentional by the designer but that’s just what I think of when I see this tee.

T-shirt – Rhymesquare

Skirt – H&M

Boots – Stylist Pick

Earrings and knuckle ring – Kukee

Hand armor – Ebay

Cuff – Cherry Blossom Bay

A mini skirt and boots can be a tricky look to pull off, you always run the risk of looking a little too much like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman (before the rich guy bought her a new wardrobe!) but I feel like teaming a mini skirt with a man’s top helps to toughen it up and look less trashy.

For accessories I am wearing my new angel wings cuff and I have paired it with my skeleton hand armor. I think they work well together and give off a good vs evil kinda vibe.

What do you guys think about menswear? Do you ever borrow clothes from your other half or brother? Or is that just me?

Angel wings

Hey Guys and Dolls,

This stunning angel wing cuff is the latest addition to my ever expanding jewellery collection.angel cuff

Last week one of my favourite bloggers, Kate from Into the stratosphere, blogged about her new Etsy store. I love browsing through Etsy so I checked it out. As soon as I saw this cuff I just had to have it, it is so lovely and unique. I knew I would regret it if I didn’t snap it up straight away.

It arrived this morning wrapped up in a lovely little package. I was so excited to open it! I can definitely say it is just as lovely in reality as it was in the picture.

I think it is a very versatile piece of jewellery. It looks fab as an anklet as well as a wrist cuff. angel cuff anklet

Please excuse the fuzzy Instagram photo. I am going to feature the cuff in an outfit post tomorrow so you will get a better look at it there.

Kate has a wonderful free spirit boho style which is reflected in her Etsy store. It is really worth checking out, she has so many pretty items of jewellery for sale. I will definitely be making another purchase in the future.

Birthday wishlist

Hey Guys and Dolls,

My birthday is coming up and since I haven’t posted a wishlist in a while so I thought it may be fun to share my birthday wishlist with you.

Birthday list

1. Chain Me Free Bomber from Nasty Gal - I am so in love with this jacket! The front panels are cut out and the wonderful chain detailing gives it a fab grunge feel. Think how amazing this would look over a neon bodycon dress.

2. UK Flag Shred Top from Blue Banana – Another grunge piece, I’m really loving anything with tassels right now.

3. Eagle necklace from Kukee – This statement necklace is from my fave online jewellery store. A perfect nod to the Americana trend.

4. Meow in space tee from Batoko – This may not be to everyone’s taste but it was made for me. Galaxy print and a cat wearing a cape, what more could I ask for in a t shirt?

5. Box wristlet bag from H! by Henry Holland – Henry Holland is one of my all time fave designers and I love his H! collection for Debenhams. I’m digging the neon and snakeskin on this bag, two trends for the price of one! :)

6. Spaniel necklace from Veuxdoo – You may have seen me tweeting about this necklace last week. It’s so cute and kooky, gotta have it.

7. Let’s Ride Homegirl t-shirt from The Pretty Junk - It has a unicorn on it, enough said.

A pug dressed like a hipster? Yes please!

Hey Guys and Dolls!

There was a slight hint of sunshine yesterday and so I made the most of it by wearing some new shorts that I picked up at Primark for £4. I call them my teapot shorts as the print reminds me of a teapot my Grandmother used to own.

Jade outfit 002Nerd pug Sports shorts

T shirt and Rabbit ear headband – New Look

Shorts – Primark

Cardigan – H&M

Stockings – Ebay

Shoes – Dorothy Perkins (old)

Necklace – customized from Heidiseeker.com

Bracelet – Topman

The shorts have a sports casual vibe about them which I don’t usually go for, I’m more of a tailored city short kind of gal, but I really like these. They are super comfy and very easy to wear and style. Despite the sunshine there was still a chill in the air so I teamed my new shorts with my over the knee stockings and a thin cardigan.

I really love this tshirt at the moment. You may have noticed I have a fondness for wearing clothes with animals on, especially ones dressed as hipsters like this adorable little pug!

The only thing I don’t like about this outfit is the shoes. I would have liked to have worn a pair of wedge sneakers to keep up the sports look, but despite the fact they have been in trend for a while I still don’t own a pair! My boyfriend rolls his eyes and moans for days every time I buy a new pair of shoes. I kind of see his point, We have three shoe racks in the hall, another in the bedroom and a cupboard which he is scared to open for fear of a shoe avalanche! However, I think this is a perfect example of how a girl can NEVER have too many shoes… Why don’t men understand these things?

Mermaid hair

Hey Guys and Dolls,

I finally got sick of the natural look I have been rocking lately and have gone back to my crazy wild hair colours.

I call this style ‘Mermaid hair!’

Mermaid hair! 007 edit

I used Special effects atomic pink, Stargazer plume and Directions turquoise.

hair dye

I will write a full review of the products once they have been in for a while but my initial reaction is positive. It is hard to tell from the photos but there are different shades of blue and green within the turquoise and it changes colour depending on the light. This is a very fun look and feels a lot more ‘me’ than brown hair did.

Mermaid hair!

To achieve this style I first bleached my hair to a pale blonde colour. Since bleaching is very harsh on hair I then used a conditioning hair mask which I left in overnight. The next day I washed and dried my hair again and then applied the atomic pink dye to the bottom section of my hair. The instructions say to leave the dye in for around 15 mins but I left it for 45 mins. Whenever I wash out hair dye I use cold water as someone once told me it makes the dye last longer. I have no idea if this is true or just an old wives tale. I then dried my hair and applied the turquoise dye to all the remaining blonde hair and left this in for 45 mins also. I then added a little of the plume (which is a deep purple) to blend the two colours together. When I was finished I conditioned my hair again and added some Moroccan argan oil. The whole process took around 3 or 4 hours so you need plenty of patience if you are going to try something like this.

What do you guys think of my latest hair creation? At the moment I’m loving it, but who knows how long it will be before I get bored and change it again

Remembering Africa

Hey Guys and Dolls

I haven’t been able to post much lately, partly due to my enormous workload at the moment and partly because I lost my camera USB connector and so couldn’t upload any photos. Anyway I have a new USB cable now and can finally get back to blogging. Yay!

These photos are actually from last Friday which seems like ages ago now. It was my sister-in-law’s birthday and so the family went out to a country pub for lunch. pub lunch 004 editIt was fairly casual but I still wanted to make an effort and wear a dress.

I had bought this dress the same day. I popped into town in the morning to buy a present and card for my sister-in-law and I somehow found myself in Primark. There was a sale on and I came away with this dress, shoes, a t-shirt and shorts all for only £12.

I instantly fell in love with this dress as soon as I saw it. I love the lion print, it reminds me of my trip to Botswana. I’m also wearing my earrings from the market in South Africa so this is a very African inspired outfit.

I took these photos in a rush and totally forgot to take a picture of the back of the dress. It is backless and looks stunning. I will have to take some more photos sometime.

Dress, Shoes and sunglasses – Primark

Necklace – New Look

I feel really boring lately, it seems like the only stores I can afford to shop in are Primark and New Look. I’m being really strict with money at the moment as I am still paying for my Africa trip. Of course the trip was worth it but I do miss shopping for better quality and more unique clothes. My money issues should be sorted soon but in the meantime I just need to be more inventive with the way I dress.
